Since the USA is either dragging its feet along or is being aggressively and unwillingly dragged into it the war between Sunni Saudi Arabia and Shiite Iran I thought my fellow Americans might want to see where their kid might very well end up dying. Bahrain is home to the US Fifth Fleet. It has a Shiite majority that is ruled by a Sunni based monarchy that didn’t much like the citizenry’s demonstrations ala the whole Arab Spring thing. Saudi Arabia physically backed the Bahraini government in squashing the demonstrations. Iraq is where the rubble of the US combat operations led to sectarian divisions becoming a harsh reality the Iraqis would face daily. It is undeniable that Tehran saw an opportunity to spread its influence culminating in Maliki’s slanted and failed administration. Today it is equally undeniable that Iran backed Shiite militias and Qoms advisors are leading the fight against Daesh/ISIL. Gaza is home of Hamas and Lebanon has Hezbollah. Both entities have the backing of Iran much to the harm and frustration of Israel. they also exist as at a minimum inspiration for islamist factions that harass the governments of Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Hezbollah has sent fighters into Syria to counter Daesh/ISIL as well as Saudi backed Sunni extremists such as Al Nusra. They also stand side by side loyalist forces trying to preserve Syria’s Assad. Syria is where the truly overt Riyadh vs Tehran stuff came to peoples consciousness. The US experienced a rift with our allies the Saudis over sluggish responses to Syria’s Civil War. Red lines foolishly drawn and brazenly ignored Iran jumped in to support their long time ally Bashar Assad. Assad’s Syria no friend to the region as they have fought the Israelis and more importantly interfered greatly with Lebanon’s sovereignty. Yemen is the new front where Iran backed Houthi Shiites are battling the failed central government and positioning itself in opposition to a nation geographically at least dominated by AQAP extremists. AQAP are Sunni’s btw. Saudi Arabia has marshaled an alliance made up primarily of Gulf Cooperation Council states to initiate assaults on the Houthis.
