Memorial Day v.2013

Memorial Day is to me a solemn day even when I slouch on it a bit. Memorial Day and Veterans Day are 2 out of about 5 holidays I actually care about. Memorial Day is however by far the one I wish people cared more about or at least showed it.

Too many forces attempt to make the day more or less than what it should be in my opinion. This is a shame.

I don’t care what ones opinions are on any of the wars and conflicts US servicemen have ever found themselves involved in. The plain and simple truth is that no matter ones politics one should be able to and even honored to take a moment out of a day and remember…

  1. Alfie says:

    Another take on the day…
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.
