I’ll give it a shot Alfie, though my history is rusty, being it’s been 32 years since I had a formal education in history.

I wouldn’t say Libya resembles the Barbary Wars, as I thought I remembered the Barbary Wars an official declaration of war.

I wouldn’t call in Operation Ajax because we had somebody in mind I thought (the Shah) to fill the vacuum in Iran. I would say Libya does loosely resemble the Bay of Pigs, because we had the CIA assisting to overthrow the Cuban government and Castro.

It can’t be Iraq, because our clear objective was to depose of Saddam, and the fact Bush had Congressional approval. The only similarity I find between Libya and Iraq is they’re both Muslim.

I’m confused about answer #4. And I don’t know enough about the Balkans to truthfully even venture a guess, but are you talking about the early 20th century? Or Clinton’s Bosnian War?

  2. Alfie says:

@Tex thanks for chiming in. Yes #4 is the Clinton era. I just thought of some past examples and wondered if I was insane on any of them. Personally I like #’s 2 and 4 as good parallels

The longer this plays out the more interesting it gets. Now that kind of sucks for those dealing with it but for the rest of us this is definitely a school lesson at a min. and i hope somebody is taking freaking notes.
