There are many stories about Google burps that have pretty wild outcomes. Like the city in Florida that “disappeared” and has done so at least twice. (Sunrise FL)
Well I just saw how Google maps have been implicated (badly, stupidly etc.) in tensions between Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The story goes that there has been ongoing tensions along the border and that Nicaragua recently invaded an island on the shared San Juan River.
The OAS has gotten involved and in a tale of the region Nicaragua and Venezuela were the only two dissenting votes. Whether that can be viewed as a deeper item is yet to be seen.
For now the map has been corrected and war averted. Good thing since Costa Rica doesn’t have a military.
