Yeah I know he’s not elected yet but that kind of is part of my point.
The China Daily, the PRC paper of record in english has an editorial bemoaning Mitt Romneys position on their country. Too f@#$ing bad!
Lets just break it down a bit. Here are the facts:
China IS an international belligerent. Not to the degree seen throughout US history but the panda is no angel. Its aid and commercial development projects are very much double edged swords and their well documented positions on bogus disputes with the smaller nation neighbors it is bullying are the seeds of very real conflict coming soon to a theater near you, well neareer to them but your kids or even yourself may end up going to fight in it.
China is absolutely, positively, overtly and totally a currency manipulator. Hell they’re economy manipulators! Eggheads the world over act like
speaking this truth is a very big taboo. Poor lil’ Timmy Geitner uttered it once and took a spanking from daddy & co. Mitt isn’t going to get too crazy, yes there is some political rhetoric in his speeches, but he isn’t going to roll like an egg roll either.
Romney’s military position internationally is totally in line with the Obama Pacific Pivot. Let’s be clear though. The Pivot doesn’t belong to Obama anymore than it will Romney. State and Defense humps have raised up in proper proportions to finally exert the correct standing for the United States of America for the next 50 years. Obama will get some credit as will Romney but seriously, this is simply one of those things the leviathan finally got right and around to.
24 hours later the PRC and others alter their position to that as Romney being forced to use heavy handed rhetoric. Well here’s the thing panda. You are an aggressive, expanding and intentional entity. You are no different from many a nation on this planet. Your course runs counter to the best interests of the United States in many ways and places. You are when friendly still not really a good friend. You are the siren to our own greedy desires and this too needs to be addressed both in Main Street USA as well as up in yo face.
China. Dragon, tiger or panda? Doesn’t freaking matter. You are at best a counter to the interests and actions of the USA,and the USA will be one to yours. This doesn’t have to get ugly and everyone involved can come out feeling good and smiling, like dinner at a Chinese restaurant . So even if we’re hungry an hour later we can at least be honest about it all.
From my skim of the China Daily editorial, I think they got one thing right. Mitt is the Ward Cleaver of politics … dude fell asleep in 1959 and just woke up. Saying stuff like Russia is our biggest threat, and getting nasty about China. It doesn’t reflect a 21st century sensibility. I don’t argue with his desire to make China play “fair” but I do think the rhetoric needs to be toned down.
You may feel Obama is not loved overseas but over the past four years he has at least removed the memory of Cowboy W with all the swagger. We don’t need to go back there again.
“We don’t need to go back there again.”
True, but are we any better with the replacement for the “swagger”?
I think Mitts Russia comment is a bit stretched but not too long. Let’s be clear about something here. The USA HAS a foreign policy and its a fairly complex one. Two of the primary counters to our overall policy are Russia and China. The Syria situation alone speaks volumes on this. Also if we accept that Bush,Obama and Romney all care about the spread of democracy there is a very real set of reasons to harbor concerns about Russia.
The rhetoric on China is timely and needed. I know you are a big domestic issues guy R but seriously there is no half way with China. It is neither paranoia or fear mongering that makes this true. China is just simply a sovereign nation with policies of its own. The thing is many of those policies even when gloved in velvet still pack a punch when the fist is swung.
As I’ve said before. I am convinced that Mitt Romney is not in cowboy mode on FP. He is and will be in a Hamiltonian mode with hints of Jefferson. Jackson will only come out when the other side doesn’t play fair and square.
I’ll close with some definitions in practical application.
Romney will be about trade issues and policies. He will use things like G8,20 and IMF over the UN. He will reach out on trade and freedoms terms. (Hamilton)
He may indeed go to the UN but more likely reignite the potential of things like: BRIC,ASEAN,MERCOSUR and OAS as well as taking a look again at the ME via the plan in my earlier post. (Ham+ Jefferson)
Jackson, pure sabre rattling and unilateral posturing….I just don’t see it.
The subject seems to still be stretching its legs a tad.

I find it hard to believe the average voter has the intelligence to care about China’s trade practices. Hard to sink one’s teeth into. Jobs …. that’s another story.
Well that will be up to Romney,Ryan and others to point out. I kind of took that the “documentary” coming out had as much to do with some of Obamas positions as well re China and jobs so I think it is there that the quicksand may lay.
