France Says…really France said this oh….

Sovereignty is key to Real Politik. Let’s face it international law, agreements and the whole let’s be like Star Trek and all get along just isn’t REAL.

france.gifFrance is a good example of that. France likes the idea that it matters. It also like the idea and takes pride in-being France.

Two examples of this follow:

French schools cracking down on religious dress. This case involving Sikhs mirror the decisions  that have affected Muslims. As I commented elsewhere on WordPress France has a sovereign right and duty to make and obey it’s laws. French people have the right to challenge said laws and an obligation to obey them.

Sadly in response to the no turban rule there is a Sikh school opening in France. This is bad because much like the Muslim issue the response leads to isolation and seperation from the larger society.

The Sikh school was built by a local entrepreneur whose son was excluded from a public school three years ago.
The boy had refused to remove his turban in class.
The French laws ban the wearing of prominent religious symbols such as Muslim headscarves or Sikh turbans in public places like offices or schools.  BBC

Internationally France flexes up on Iran. Of course Iran thinks this is US puppet show stuff. In fact France has always enjoyed an ability to go where the US can’t and an avid interest to do so. Bottom line France warns Iran (and the world ?)

On Sunday Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said: “We have to prepare for the worst, and the worst is war.” BBC

  1. wait wait… aren’t you following the ideology of star trek yourself? where you adopt a morally relative position to whatever laws a country passes for itself?

if so, then i respect that.

however, on principle i think that’s religious persecution… or more like, persecution against religions… and hampers freedom of religion.

if liberty is france’s love then it’s being fickle.

My point is that the French people have the right. Just because you’re Muslim,Sikh or Calvinist doesn’t mean you can’t be a French citizen participating in the system.

  3. france may have a right to make its laws, but human beings have a right to stand up for their individual rights… civil liberties… right? isn’t that what we’ve learned from our own history?

also from the history of india? gandhi’s ideology?

  4. Here is a good example
